The Pizza Press is a chain restaurant which we do not typically scout.  After visiting the only two locations in Central Florida (as of June 2020) we are happy to report they both present a very local community style and they have several accommodations for special diets. We felt this made it worthy an exception and a report out.  

Pizza is the best and when following a special diet it is always great news when you know you can continue to enjoy a life-long favorite. Since you pick your toppings from a large variety offered it is easier to avoid gluten free and follow Keto, Paleo, low acid and vegetarian. They have a gluten free crust, a cauliflower crust and a regular white flour thin and think crust to pick from.  Dairy free is a little tricky but there is a vegan cheese you can use. Careful though!  The cauliflower crust is made with cheese as a binder. The staff can accommodate the more common diet concerns but didn’t seem to be as familiar when asked specific ingredient questions. We were able to contact the restaurant where they confirmed the presence of cheese in the pre-made crust. So get excited that there are so many choices for you but be prepared to dig deeper for information if your diet is ingredient specific.

Market to Table offers a local community feel, locally sourced foods and a sophisticated yet comforting menu. It is only open for dinner and on certain nights so plan accordingly. Be sure to call ahead for a reservation too as it is popular. Your bill will reflect that is a full service restaurant and serves higher quality food items. The staff is friendly and willing to help you navigate their menu for a special diet. There are gluten-free, vegetarian, Paleo, Keto, diary-free and low acid choices available or at least modifiable from the main menu.  They don’t specifically call out any special diet items but with some questions to your server you should be able to find something that will work.

Se7en Bites is a local gem. The menu is amazing and the taste is even better. They serve breakfast, brunch and lunch and you can get take out. The atmosphere is as about as casual as you can get but it adds to the charm and Southern hospitality of the whole experience. If you do not follow a specific diet you will fall in love with this place. If you do have a special diet… it is going to be a challenge.  There isn’t a specific menu other than the weekly specials.  The staff is extraordinarily kind and will make every attempt to accommodate your requests but many of the food items are homemade ahead of time from a standard recipe and the items themselves may not have a recipe that can be modified. The desserts are spectacular and you can order ahead for whole cakes. Their sweet spot is their homemade garlic biscuits and they are used in many of their menu items. There are greens, wraps, waffles and bread available that can be substituted as an sandwich entree base. It will take some creative thinking to navigate a gluten-free, Paleo, Keto, vegetarian, low acid and dairy-free diets. It isn’t impossible, but will take a bit more time asking questions and you may need to prompt the staff with your ideas.  The extra time is worth it!

NY Bagel Deli & Pizza is a taste of New York right in your backyard. They serve a variety of bagels with traditional toppings and spreads along with muffins, coffee and sweets. Not exactly the ideal choice for a gluten free, Keto, or Paleo as there are no obvious options on the menu. There are dairy free and low acid choices that you can pick from but the bagels and breads come from traditional bread and grains.

4 Rivers Smokehouse is barbecue at its best.  They are local, community focused and the food is amazing. Paleo and Keto friends will love all the protein choices. You’ll have to do some picking and reorganizing to meet special diet needs but it is worth it.  They offer an allergy sheet so you can plan ahead before you arrive. For low acid/heartburn concerns you’ll need to pick wisely as they use a lot of pepper and tomato based ingredients. Be sure to ask questions as the stuff is very willing to answer questions. The brisket, turkey, chicken, bakes beans are so good and they have a bake shop too! Enjoy!

 A rare find to have local, healthy and good all at one place. Everything has a healthy twist to it and they can accommodate almost any allergy or special diet.  The staff is willing to help and can talk you through all options.  Be sure to try their made to order bowls, potato wedges and juices! The menu has seafood, burgers, rice bowls and so much more. They also have meal plans where you can order food ahead and take it home to eat all week.

Harrell’s Hot Dogs and Cones

Harrell’s Hot Dogs and Cold Cones marries tradition with contemporary food options.  They have grilled all beef hot dogs, brats and chicken and a vegan dog. They have bun options including a Spinach for low carb and gluten free needs.  You can pick from several toppings and sauces and you won’t want to miss their fresh cut seasoned fries.  It will be tough to find a low acid option unless you enjoy their mac & cheese or ice cream. Limited seating outside but there are plenty of spots to be found in downtown Winter Garden.

Sweet Dee’s Cupcakery – You can pick from the flavors that were made ahead for the day or you can have their team construct your favorite flavors and toppings when you arrive. Most cupcakes are made with plenty of white flour, eggs and sugar but there are a small amount of gluten free and vegan options available. You can check their Facebook Page for an occasional special flavor combination or special. They have a super-friendly staff and the cupcakes are extremely delicious. They make also make cakes, brownies, mini cheesecakes and macaroons and even have options for dogs!

Locally owned ice cream parlor in Winter Garden, FL serving over a 20 delicious flavors. Cones, cups, one and two scoops, sundaes and floats are all available. Most flavors are fully loaded with dairy and sugar but they may have one or two options for sugar free and dairy free. Nostalgic, personal and very delicious.
